Central University of Finance and Economics (CUFE) is one of China’s prestigious universities directly administrated by the Ministry of Education (MOE) and jointly supported by the Ministry of Finance (MOF) and the People’s Government of Beijing Municipality. It is a key participant in the top national initiative for universities, including “Double First-Class Initiative,” “Project 211,” and the inaugural “985 Advanced Discipline Innovation Platform.”

Established on November 6, 1949, under the MOF’s oversight, CUFE evolved through several stages, including the North China School of Taxation, Central School of Taxation, Central Institute of Public Finance, Central Institute of Finance and Economics, and Central Institute of Finance. Renamed Central University of Finance and Economics in 1996, it transitioned to the MOE’s direct management in 2000. CUFE has been included in the nation's most prestigious academic development initiatives: designated a “Project 211” university in 2005, and joined the “985 Advantage Discipline Innovation Platform” in 2006. CUFE became a co-supported institution by the MOE, MOF, and Beijing Municipal Government in 2012. In 2017, it was selected for the “Double First-Class Initiative”——China’s current highest-tier university development program, aimed at building world-class institutions and disciplines. Guided by its motto of “Loyalty, Unity, Truth-Seeking, and Innovation,” CUFE upholds the philosophy of “Pursuing Truth and Excellence” and embraces its mission of “Fostering Virtue, Nurturing Talent, and Serving the Nation through Finance and Economics Education.” The university has developed a robust academic framework centered on economics, management, and law, complemented by coordinated growth in literature, science, engineering, education, and arts. Currently, CUFE employs 1,107 full-time faculty members, 385 professors, and 1015 doctorate holders. The university has approximately 10,000 undergraduates, 6,100 master’s students, 1,000 doctoral candidates, and 400 international students.

CUFE offers 54 undergraduate programs, 7 first-level doctoral degree programs, 16 first-level master’s degree programs, 1 professional doctoral degree category, 21 professional master’s degree categories, and 5 postdoctoral research stations. Its Applied Economics discipline achieved an A+ rating in the fourth national discipline evaluation.

The university prioritizes faculty development, boasting over 60 distinguished talents, including recipients of the “New Century Hundred, Thousand, and Ten Thousand Talents Project,” national teaching masters, and experts with national honors. CUFE hosts 3 national teaching teams, 3 “Huang-Danian-Style Teaching Teams in national universities”, and 7 outstanding Beijing teaching teams, with 40 faculty members selected for major national talent programs.
